COMMON QUESTIONS

The doctrine answers most of them.

Is Runemark just Habitica with a different theme?+
No. Habitica is a to-do list with RPG aesthetics. Runemark enforces behavioral doctrine at the system level. The Stamina Wheel requires a real timed session — you cannot click a checkbox and get Rupees. The Fog of War prevents realm-hopping. The Graveyard remembers your excuses. These are fundamentally different mechanics, not cosmetic differences.
What if I have an emergency during a Flow Session?+
The system has an emergency exit. When you fracture, you can type your excuse — and "genuine emergency" is a valid input. The Shadow Log tracks all fractures as data, not punishment. The Streak Shield (purchasable with Rupees) can absorb legitimate misses. The system is strict, not cruel.
Why are there only five realms? What about spirituality?+
The five realms are designed to cover the domains that most people neglect most systematically. Spirituality/faith is a valid sixth domain and is on the roadmap. In the meantime, many users map spiritual practices into The Forge (contemplative creative work) or The Hearth (community). Custom realm naming is planned for the Warrior tier.
Can I use Runemark without the gamification elements?+
No. Runemark is not a task manager with an optional game layer. The gamification IS the system. The Rupee economy, the Stamina Wheel, the Hearts, the Fog of War — these are the enforcement mechanisms that make the doctrine work. If you want a plain task manager, use Things or Todoist. Runemark is for people who've already tried plain task managers.
Is this an app I download or a website?+
Runemark is a Progressive Web App (PWA). During the onboarding boot sequence, you'll be prompted to add it to your home screen. It then runs like a native app — no App Store required. It works on iOS, Android, and desktop. The boot sequence itself guides you through the installation.
What does the Oracle actually know about me?+
The Oracle receives your live game state on every query: current hearts, Rupee balance, realm progress percentages, realm scars, graveyard history (abandoned quest names and abandon count), streak, last fracture time and excuse, and whether you've set tomorrow's intention. It does NOT receive your full conversation history with other users, financial data, or personal identifying information beyond your hero name.

We built Runemark because we were tired of being productive and getting nowhere.

There is a difference between motion and progress.

Most people spend their lives generating motion — responding to emails, attending meetings, checking off tasks, filling their to-do lists with things that feel urgent but are not important. They are busy. They are never done. They are confusing activity for output.

The productivity industry is broken

Every productivity app we tried rewarded us for showing up, not for what we built. Habitica gave us XP for drinking water. Notion gave us the beautiful illusion of organization. Pomodoro timers helped us focus on the wrong things faster.

None of them could answer the question that actually mattered: Is the work I'm doing today compounding into something permanent?

The Resistance is real

Steven Pressfield called it The Resistance. Cal Newport called it Shallow Work. James Clear called it the wrong habit loop. They were all describing the same phenomenon: the human tendency to do what is easy, comfortable, and immediately rewarding instead of what is hard, important, and compounding.

We built Runemark to name The Resistance. To track it. To enforce the systems that willpower cannot.

Compounding requires sequentiality

You cannot build a thriving business while neglecting your health. You cannot maintain deep relationships while drowning in financial anxiety. You cannot learn at depth while scattered across six projects. The realms of a well-lived life are not parallel tracks — they are interdependent systems that require sequential attention.

The Fog of War is not a punishment. It is a mirror.

Rest is not the enemy of output

Runemark's Rupee economy exists because we believe that earned leisure is not laziness — it is recovery. The Guilt-Free Token, the Sanctioned Rest Day, the Meal Out Permit: these are not indulgences. They are the structural reward that makes sustained output psychologically sustainable.

Work without planned rest is not discipline. It is self-destruction on a slow timer.

The system should have teeth

We built enforcement into every layer because we know from experience that good intentions are not enough. The Stamina Wheel fractures because we know tab-switching destroys flow. The Graveyard records your excuses because we know patterns only become visible when they're written down. Terms of Service

1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By accessing or using Runemark ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. Runemark reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any modifications.

2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

Runemark is a gamified life-management Progressive Web Application (PWA) that provides productivity tools including but not limited to: quest management, focus session tracking, virtual economy (Rupee system), AI-assisted strategic planning (The Oracle), and behavioral accountability features.

3. ACCOUNTS AND REGISTRATION

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate and current.

4. SUBSCRIPTION AND BILLING

Runemark offers a free tier (Recruit) and paid tiers (Warrior at $12/month or $96/year, The Foreman at $29/month or $240/year). Paid subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Early waitlist members who lock in the promotional $8/month rate retain that rate for the life of their account provided the subscription remains active. Refunds are available within 7 days of any billing period for annual subscriptions. Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable.

5. USER CONDUCT

You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service; (c) interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers; (d) create accounts by automated means; (e) attempt to manipulate the Rupee economy or Flow Session verification systems through technical exploitation.

6. VIRTUAL ECONOMY

Rupees, Hearts, and other in-app currencies are virtual items with no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for real currency. Real-world rewards redeemed through The Merchant are at the user's sole discretion and Runemark bears no responsibility for the fulfillment of self-defined rewards. Rupee decay (2% weekly) is a system mechanic and does not constitute a loss of purchased value.

7. AI FEATURES — THE ORACLE

The Oracle is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. Responses are AI-generated and do not constitute professional advice of any kind — medical, financial, legal, or psychological. Runemark is not responsible for decisions made based on Oracle output. The Oracle receives game-state data as described in our Privacy Policy. By using The Oracle, you consent to this data being processed by Anthropic's API.

8. DATA AND PRIVACY

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated here by reference. Runemark uses Supabase for data storage and authentication. Data is stored on servers in the United States. You retain ownership of your personal data and may request deletion at any time.

9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

All content, design, code, game mechanics, and branding within Runemark are the intellectual property of Runemark and its licensors. The names Runemark, The Resistance, Fog of War, Stamina Wheel, Iron Citadel, Vitality Peaks, Whispering Woods, The Hearth, The Forge, The Merchant, The Campfire, The Tavern, The Oracle, The Graveyard, and The Mirror as applied to productivity software are trademarks of Runemark.

10. DISCLAIMERS AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. RUNEMARK SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. RUNEMARK'S TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU IN THE SIX MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. TERMINATION

Runemark may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may cancel your account at any time through account settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Data may be retained for up to 90 days before permanent deletion.

12. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in San Francisco, California.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Account Information

Email address, hero name, and hashed password upon registration. This is used solely for authentication and account management.

Game State Data

Quest completion records, session durations, Rupee transactions, Heart levels, streak counts, realm progress, fracture events and excuses (Shadow Log), Tavern inbox entries, Campfire ritual completions, Dream Journal entries, and Mirror reflection answers. This data is stored in your Supabase account and is used to power your game experience and The Oracle's context.

Oracle Query Data

When you use The Oracle, your game-state summary (not your raw personal data) is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. This includes: current Hearts, Rupee balance, realm progress percentages, scar count and quest names, graveyard summaries, streak, last fracture summary, and tomorrow's intention text. Your full conversation history is not stored server-side between sessions.

Technical Data

IP address, browser type, device information, and usage analytics collected via standard server logs. No third-party analytics pixels (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel).

Location and Health Data (Optional)

If you grant permission during onboarding, approximate GPS coordinates are stored locally on your device for Environmental Trigger features. Health data (steps, sleep) is accessed via Apple HealthKit or Google Fit APIs and processed locally — never stored on Runemark servers.

  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties
  • We do not use your data to train AI models
  • We do not display advertising
  • We do not share your Shadow Log, Dream Journal, or Mirror answers with any third party
  • We do not build behavioral profiles for commercial purposes

4. DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY

Game state data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) with Row Level Security (RLS) enabled. Each user can only access their own data. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Dream Journal entries are stored locally on your device only and are never synced to our servers.

5. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time from account settings or by emailing privacy@runemark.app. Deletion is processed within 7 days. Game state data is permanently deleted within 90 days. Billing records are retained for 7 years as required by law.

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Runemark uses: Supabase for database and authentication (Privacy Policy at supabase.com/privacy); Anthropic API for The Oracle feature (Privacy Policy at anthropic.com/privacy); Vercel for hosting (Privacy Policy at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy). Each third party processes only the minimum data required for their function.

7. COOKIES

Runemark uses only functional cookies necessary for authentication (session token). We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.

8. YOUR RIGHTS (GDPR / CCPA)

You have the right to: access your personal data; correct inaccurate data; delete your data; export your data in machine-readable format; opt out of any marketing communications; withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@runemark.app.

9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Runemark is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

Built by people who needed it.

Runemark was born from a personal problem: we were productive, but not progressing. We had good systems, but The Resistance always won.

THE ORIGIN

Runemark started as a personal system built in Notion. The same system that hundreds of "gamified life" templates on Gumroad are selling. The insight was identical to everyone else's: treat life like a game, earn points for good habits, level up your character.

It didn't work. Not because the idea was wrong — because a Notion template has no enforcement. You can ignore it. You can lie to it. The Resistance can walk right past it and you'll never know.

THE INSIGHT

The problem isn't motivation. Most people who use productivity apps are motivated. The problem is that good intentions cannot compete with the pull of what is comfortable, familiar, and immediately rewarding.

The system needs to have teeth. The Stamina Wheel fractures not because we're punishing you — but because the Visibility API can detect when you've left the arena, and without the structural consequence, the incentive to stay is too weak. The Graveyard records your excuses not to shame you — but because patterns only become visible when they accumulate in one place.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Runemark is built on Next.js 14 (App Router), Supabase (PostgreSQL with Row Level Security), Drizzle ORM, and Zustand for high-frequency state. The Oracle runs on Anthropic's Claude API — specifically chosen for its reasoning depth and its ability to hold complex context.

The Visibility API enforcement, the ACID transaction on flow session completion, and the server-side start_time validation are all intentional choices to make the system cheat-resistant by design, not by trust.
